LONDON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Leeds United claimed its first Premier League home victory since the opening day of the season, deepening the troubles of struggling West Ham in a 2-1 win at Elland Road.
The result lifted Daniel Farke's side up to 13th in the table, while the visitors stayed second from bottom after suffering a seventh defeat in nine league games.
Brenden Aaronson opened the scoring inside three minutes, capitalising on some chaotic West Ham defending. The American winger pounced after Noah Okafor's header was parried, with Ollie Scarles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both at fault in the build-up.
Leeds doubled their advantage just over 14 minutes later when Joe Rodon powered home a header from a Sean Longstaff corner. It marked the earliest Leeds had led by two goals in a Premier League match since April 2004.
West Ham, who played in front of swathes of empty seats during their loss to Brentford earlier in the week amid protests against the club's board, once again offered their travelling fans little to celebrate. Mateus Fernandes' 90th-minute consolation was their only highlight on another dismal evening that saw the Hammers slip to a third straight defeat - their worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1973-74.
Nuno Espirito Santo remains winless in four matches since replacing Graham Potter. His team's misery was compounded by an injury to teenage defender Scarles, while Lucas Paqueta had a goal ruled out for offside following a VAR review. Those two stoppages contributed to an extended first half with 13 minutes of added time. ■
