SINGAPORE, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Germany's Florian Wellbrock completed a "golden double" at the Singapore World Aquatic Championships by winning the men's 5km open water swimming here on Friday, adding to his 10km gold.

Wellbrock, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic champion of the 10km category, touched home in 57 minutes 26.40 seconds, claiming his eighth international gold in open water swimming.

The 27-year-old finished just 2.90 seconds ahead of Italy's six-time world champion across pool and open water Gregorio Paltrinieri, the silver medal winner in the 10km two days ago.

Frenchman Marc-Antoine Olivier took bronze in 57:30.40. China's Zhang Jinhou finished 24th in 1:00:56.00, while his teammate Lan Tiancheng 26th in 1:01:01.80.

In the women's race earlier, Australia's Moesha Johnson also clinched her second gold medal, winning the 5km title just 36 hours after her 10km triumph.

World No. 2 Johnson recorded a winning time of 1:02.1.30, narrowly edging Italy's Ginevra Taddeucci, who also finished second behind Johnson in the 10km race. Japan's Ichika Kajimoto claimed bronze 27.6 seconds behind the winner.

China's Tian Muran, making her debut at the World Aquatics Championships, finished 15th in 1:04:10.9. Her teammate Cheng Hanyu finished 32nd with a time of 1:06:34.3.
