VIENNA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Austria's inflation rate in June is expected to reach 3.3 percent, the highest level since May 2024, according to a flash estimate released Tuesday by Statistics Austria.
Thomas Burg, director general of statistics at Statistics Austria, called the data "the highest level since May 2024." He noted the energy sector is the main driver of the increase, explaining that "fuel prices had a much less dampening effect than recently."
In June, service prices grew by 4.3 percent, marking the largest contribution to overall inflation, the official data showed. Prices for food, tobacco, and alcohol also grew faster compared to the previous month, registering a year-on-year increase of 4.4 percent.
Meanwhile, industrial goods prices rose slightly by 0.9 percent. The so-called core inflation, which excludes energy and covers the aggregates of industrial goods and services, amounted to 3.1 percent, Burg said. ■
